WASHINGTON — A plan to generate  power — and local jobs — through the

construction of 52 wind turbine  generators in the _San Bernardino_

(http://topics.pe.com/topic/San_Bernardino)  National  Forest is among 14 projects

around the country selected by the Obama  administration to move forward at an

expedited pace, the White House said  Monday.

The federal review period for the  Cleghorn Ridge Wind Project will be cut

from as long as three years to as  short as 18 months under the order,

according to guidance released Monday  evening.

The decision stems from an August  presidential memorandum in which

_President Barack Obama_ (http://topics.pe.com/topic/Barack_Obama)   instructed

agencies to speed up environmental reviews and permit decisions for 

high-priority infrastructure projects that have secured necessary funding and  can

create a significant number of jobs.

“Improving the efficiency and  effectiveness of federal permit decisions

and environmental reviews is one  critical step the federal government can

take to accelerate job creation,” the  White House said in the guidance.

It was not immediately clear how  many jobs would be produced by the

project, which involves the turbine  generators being aligned in an east-to-west

direction along Cleghorn Ridge,  which lies west of Lake Silverwood and south

of Highway 138.

The federal agencies with  jurisdiction over the project include the _U.S.

Forest  Service_ (http://topics.pe.com/topic/United_States_Forest_Service) ,

the _Federal  Aviation Administration_

(http://topics.pe.com/topic/Federal_Aviation_Administration)  and the U.S. Air Force.

The White House said the project  has been proposed by an organization

called Cleghorn Ridge Wind LLC. Attempts  to reach a representative of the

corporation late Monday were  unsuccessful.

We take Forest Road 1N02 to Aspen Grove Trailhead and Fish Creek Trailhead to check out the trails for future hikes into the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area. We park the rig and walk a spur road off the main Forest Road. We then take Forest Road 1N37 rated most difficult back to 1N05. We stop for a break at an Aspen Grove along the trail. We cross the Pacific Crest Hiking Trail a few times during the day. From Forest Road 1N05 we head over to Coon Creek Cabin and lunch. We check out the Cabin and campsite. Toyota 4Runner. 4x4. off road. 4 wheel drive. 4 wheeling. Aspen Trees. Views of Mt. San Jacinto from the high points along the trail. Just another beautiful day in the forest. If you plan on stopping along the trail, pick up an Adventure Pass at the Big Bear Discovery Center or many other locations in Big Bear California. If you plan on hiking in the San Gorgonio Wilderness, you will need a day hike permit or overnight hike permit also.
