Cleveland National Forest Seeks Public Comment on Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Application  Cleveland National Forest officials will submit a cooperative grant application to the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division for 2010/2011 "Green Sticker" grants. The Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program provides for well managed off-highway vehicle recreation in the State of California by providing financial assistance to cities, counties, districts, federal agencies, state agencies, educational institutions, federally recognized Native American Tribes, and nonprofit entities.  Beginning March 8, 2011, the application can be viewed by clicking on the "Grants" tab on the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation website at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. Comments on the application must be received between March 8, 2011 and April 4, 2011.  Since 2003, Green Sticker grants have provided funding to help protect, maintain, and enhance the Cleveland National Forest's designated off-highway vehicle (OHV) program. The Cleveland NF currently has two OHV areas, Wildomar in Riverside County and Corral Canyon in San Diego County.  If awarded, grant money would be used for facilities maintenance, signage, wildlife and cultural resource protection, and law enforcement support at OHV areas.  Public comments must be submitted to both Jake Rodriguez, Trabuco Ranger District Recreation & Lands Officer at jfrodriguez@fs.fed.us, and to California State Parks by using the "Grants" tab on their website at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov.

Ocotillo Wells North Public Workshops

Ocotillo Wells North Public Workshops
to be Held March 10 and 19!

California State Parks will conduct two public workshops focusing on the Ocotillo Wells North area as part of the comprehensive public involvement program for the Ocotillo Wells SVRA General Plan and EIR. The purpose of the workshops is to collect broad input on issues and ideas associated with long-range planning for this portion of the SVRA. The format of both workshops will be identical.

The first workshop will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 7 p.m. to 
9 p.m. at the Carlsbad Senior Center (799 Pine Ave, Carlsbad, CA 92008). For directions visit Google Maps.

The second workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Travertine Grill (1409 Van Buren Avenue, Salton City, CA 92275). For directions visit Google Maps.

About Ocotillo Wells North

Ocotillo Wells North was added to Ocotillo Wells SVRA after the Freeman property (also known as Truckhaven/Desert Cahuilla) was acquired by California State Parks in 2006. Senator Denise Ducheny and Senator Dennis Hollingsworth recently convened a group of stakeholders to establish a plan for dividing the Freeman Property between Anza Borrego Desert State Park and Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA).

Following the stakeholder group meetings, the plan was finalized under Senate Bill 855. This legislation specifies that the northwestern portion of the property be annexed to Anza Borrego Desert State Park and the southeastern portion of the property be annexed to Ocotillo Wells SVRA. This map depicts the annexations.

A few of you have asked about my old Willys 1953 M38A1 ( CJ5 ) that I sold when I got my Unimog. The guy that bought it is moving for work and can not take the Jeep with him and needs to sell it. He called me today and said he would take half what he bought it for, He will sell it for $6,000 but if you had cash in hand I bet he would even take 5,500 ( I have more $ in axles ) Great rig as most of you remember and if I was not tied down with the new house I would jump on it.
